A recount confirmed Republican Mike Pike’s victory over Democratic incumbent state Sen. Nate Boulton.
The votes were counted and recounted. And Mike Pike flipped Senate District 20 red.
The Republican will represent an area that includes Des Moines, Altoona, Pleasant Hill and southwest Ankeny.
At the end of election night, Pike was ahead by 44 votes.
Following the recount results Friday, state Sen. Nate Boulton conceded the race, thanking supporters.
“It’s been an honor to serve two terms in the Iowa Senate. I look forward to a new phase in my advocacy for working Iowans,” Bolton wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
When the Legislative session begins this January, the Iowa Senate will remain in Republican hands.
The seat was among three Iowa Legislative races and one congressional race where the candidate trailing called for a recount.
