Incumbent Rep. Eddie Andrews, a Republican from Johnston, will return to the Iowa House of Representatives in January.
With all precincts reporting in the district, Andrews has won by 649 votes (9,594 to 8,945). The incumbent beat Democratic candidate Tiara Mays-Sims, 50.92% to 47.74%, and maintained Republican control of House District 43.
Andrews has served in the Iowa House since 2020 and voted for several extreme measures while in office. Those include several anti-abortion measures, including the current near-total abortion ban, and a fetal personhood law, which acts as a total abortion ban without explicitly banning abortion.
Andrews has also voted for the private school voucher law and laws that ban books in Iowa schools. In 2024, he supported arming teachers and in 2021, voted for a law that allows people to buy and carry handguns without a permit.
House District 43 includes parts of Johnston and Urbandale, and it has leaned slightly to the left in recent years.
