There will be a special election to fill a state House District covering Fort Madison and Keokuk. The election will take place on March 11.
Friday afternoon, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced that a special election would be held to fill state House District 100. The vacancy was left following the death of Rep. Martin Graber of Fort Madison.
House District 100 is in Lee County and sits at the farthest southeastern edge of the state. It includes Fort Madison, Keokuk, Donnellson, Montrose, West Point, Houghton and St. Paul.
The next step is for candidates to announce and political parties to make their picks. County Republican and Democratic parties will select a candidate at county conventions. Independent candidates can collect enough signatures to be included on the ballot.
The election will take place on March 11.
However, as of Friday afternoon when Reynold made the announcement, details were sparse. Lee County Auditor Sherri Yasenchok told Iowa Starting Line that they are awaiting additional details from the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office on things like the number of signatures required to run as an independent and the timeline for the election. She said that information would be available Monday morning.
