Iowa farmers only plant corn and beans, you say?
Tell that to the 100+ Christmas tree farms dotted across Iowa’s snowy landscape this time of year, where you can pick out the perfect Scotch pine, white pine, Canaan fir, Douglas fir, Frasier fir, Colorado blue spruce, or other varieties of evergreens to have your living room smelling fresh this December.
The Iowa Christmas Tree Association maps many of the farms, and the closest is likely an easy drive for most of us.
Farms, most family owned, have cut-your-own trees, pre-cut trees, or both. Many also provide additional products and services like shaking out the old needles, bundling the tree, and tying it to your car—plus tree stands, centerpieces, and wreaths for sale. Some also have holiday decor, snacks, hot cider, and photo opportunities.
Here’s a selection of some of Iowa’s Christmas tree farms—alphabetically by city name—along with their websites for more information. (Some have already sold out for the season, so check before you go!)
